Artistic statement
"My goal in sculpture is always to show strength and character.  I believe that form follows function and whether my subject be human or animal, I see flesh and bone as a moving machine.  The strength of a flexed tendon, a group of muscles or the weight of a wrinkle is what inspires me the most.
In my easel work, I paint in the chiaroscuro style (Italian for light/shadow) where I try to inject drama into my subject and yet achieve a sense of calm and quietude. I believe that if done right, even a small painting can draw a person in from across the room and hold the viewer’s gaze.
Although my training in the traditional knowledge of the Old Masters lends my work a timeless quality, my response to the world is very much rooted in the contemporary."
